Captain America: Civil War - Robert Downey Jr FINALLY Confirms Spider-Man

As if you didn't know.

Thanks to the new edition of EW, we have a raft of new information - and new photos - concerning Captain America: Civil War, so we don't all forget about Marvel's versus movie in the fall-out from that other one. The issues includes confirmation - finally - of something that has been expected for a long time: that Spider-Man will debut in the film before his own stand-alone. That comes thanks to Robert Downey Jr's excitement:

€œ Cheadle and I are just going, €˜Wow, dude, look at this. We€™re now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the . But we€™re also looking around like, €˜Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man€?€™ I mean it€™s like wow, this thing is just crazy.€
Nothing more cool than old dudes fanboying over superheroes. Meanwhile Chris Evans took a more pragmatic approach to the Spidey presence:
€œYou never know with Marvel. Sometimes they shoot things and then don€™t use them.€
Yeah, that's not really as compelling. Kevin Feige has also taken the time to confirm that Martin Freeman's character isn't going to just appear briefly as a low level antagonist (because he's a government man):
€œHe€™s under the cloak of secrecy. There are a lot of amazing actors in this movie. Some of them play larger roles than others. And in some cases there are some you will meet ever so briefly in this film and then will be expanded upon in future films. falls into that latter category.€
Very interesting. It was anticipated that Freeman was going to be playing a governmental stooge, working as a liaison to the Avengers, but there's also a possibility that he's playing Everett Ross, a US agent assigned to Wakanda. That rumour has now leapt up the charts, as him being tied to Black Panther would mean an expanded role in that forthcoming film, as a sort of replacement Phil Coulson.
