Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 10 Ways It Beats Thor 2
2. The Movie Actually Develops Captain America
Steve Rogers' situation - as a man literally out of time, no less - opens up his character for a whole host of interesting possibilities, and although it would be easy for the filmmakers here to just throw in the occasional "What's Google?" or "How do I use an iPhone?" joke (and they do), one of the best things about The Winter Soldier is that it allow us to understand his character in ways that we haven't really been given the opportunity to do before. That's to say, by the time we've actually finished with this movie, we feel like we know Captain America as a person. Originally poised as the one of the more inherently difficult to like characters in the MCU line-up (not on purpose - he's just po-faced and patriotic, it's not as easy to endear yourself to him), The Winter Soldier brings Captain America to the forefront of a great movie and rounds him out as a character - when the credits are rolling this time around, he actually feels "developed," in the same way that, say, Tony Stark did at the end of Iron Man. Thor: The Dark World skimped out on this factor somewhat (Thor doesn't really change), but aside from its relentless action sequences, here's a film that allow MCU fans to experience Captain America in full capacity. We get to know him - if you weren't a fan before, this flick will change your mind.
Adrian Smith was born in Singapore City and moved to London when he was five. He writes for the internet full-time, and occasionally makes travel documentaries (the last one was about Moscow). He has a cat called Louis.
