Captain Marvel's ending (seemingly) wraps up everything in a neat little package. Carol goes off into space to try and find the Skrull a home, leaving Fury with a pager, while Fury himself sets in motion the beginnings of the Avengers Initiative. As was revealed in the film though, it turns out that the team were almost called something very different.

In the comics, Carol's actual callsign was "cheeseburger", on account of the fact she threw up her lunch (which consisted of a cheeseburger) while undertaking G-Force training. In the film, it's "Avenger", and it serves as the inspiration for the team of the same name.

It's a fitting way of weaving Carol's story into the fabric of the MCU, as well as the Avengers specifically, while it also restores the theme of Marvel's women having named the super-group.

It was actually the Wasp who did so in the comics, so for Carol to have an influence on the name too is especially fitting, and potentially even more-so, given she's likely to lead them after Avengers: Endgame.
