4. Why SHIELD Is Well Prepared For Future Invasions

SHIELD's origins can be traced back as far as the post-war days of Agent Peggy Carter, who did a great job of thwarting this, that, and the other. But homegrown threats and alien invasions are two very different beasts. So how did SHIELD get so savvy at preempting the latter by the time Loki's invasion came along in 2012?

As stated before, it's good to have gaps in the narrative. But this was a big old gap, and Captain Marvel helped to bridge it. The Kree skirmish and their intimidating arrival just outside of Planet Earth was an, er, eye-opener for Fury and SHIELD. It caused all parties to realise that there would be an unavoidable limitation to what the human military could fathom in response, should they ever have needed to.

Hence the hunt for superheroes. If the Kree never showed up in the 90s, Earth may have been fully unprepared for the invasions of the 21st century. And let's also keep in mind that this hindsight, plus the creation of Captain Marvel, could potentially turn the tides in the next war coming, aka Endgame.
