4. The Return Of The Skrulls

Captain Marvel managed to put an excellent twist on an old comic book depiction by switching the Skrulls from being just another antagonistic alien race and into a diaspora of persecuted beings, but don't rule them out from returning in the future. They're bound to have a recurring role, given their status in the comics, and with Carol Danvers likely to explain why she's been gone for so long searching for another Skrull world, something is bound to have happened.

So, when the Skrulls return, will they be heroes or villains? The answer isn't as simple as a yes or no, but don't rule out some elements of the Skrulls from taking on villainous guises later on. Why? Well there's a moment that comes late on in Captain Marvel, where Talos impersonates a Kree soldier and executes two of their captors. Before shooting at the Kree, Talos asks his partner to shield the eyes of their child, only for that same child to look back at the deaths in the ensuing confusion.

The camera lingers on this shot very deliberately, and it seems as though it could yet serve a purpose. Of course the new depiction of the Skrulls is welcome, but there's equally just as much potential to use them as villains.

Indeed, with that seed of conflict now planted, don't rule out the prospect of the Skrulls returning in the future, either as enemies or as allies.
