Marvel fans have known for a long time now that Carol Danvers is going to play a huge part in Avengers: Endgame, and Captain Marvel's first post-credits scene went some way in confirming exactly that.
It looks as though she'll be involved from relatively early on in the film, given what we know so far, and the stage is set for her to truly come into her own. It's now been confirmed that she answers Fury's call, and is sporting a whole new costume. Given the timing of her arrival, it also seems obvious that she'll be heavily involved throughout, working alongside the surviving Avengers in their attempts to avert the decimation wrought by Thanos during Infinity War.
But there may be a more personal element at play too. It's been clear for a while now that Carol Danvers will be one of the leading figures in the MCU from now on, and with both Steve Rogers and Tony Stark set to depart in the wake of Endgame, it stands to reason that there'll be a passing of the torch moment at some point too.
There's a whole lot left to do with the character - including the matter of giving her a superhero name - in Endgame, and although it's unclear just what exactly she'll be getting up to, expect her to play a vital part from start to finish.
