9. Flashbacks To Carol's Air Force Days With Rambeau

Although Monica Rambeau - a cosmic superhero not all that dissimilar to Carol Danvers - won't feature in Captain Marvel, her mother Maria (played by Lashana Lynch) will play a key part. Monica is even referenced by name in Entertainment Weekly's coverage for the film, with Maria herself going by the callsign of Photon, itself a heroic alias once used by Monica in the comics.
The main purpose of this flashback snippet is to establish Carol's time as an Air Force pilot. We can assume that, during this time, she encountered the Kree and was gifted with their abilities. Later snippets in the trailer seem to allude to this too, so we can expect that Carol departed Earth (initially) during her time serving in the United States Air Force.
Between flashbacks to Carol's childhood, her time in the Air Force and her days as a member of Starforce, it's looking as though the film is making sure all bases are covered. It's setting up to be a truly detailed examination of her life, and that's really exciting, given no other Marvel character has experienced similar treatment.
