Captain Marvel Trailer Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs

7. The Hero Shot

Marvel know how to do hero shots like nothing else. That spinning shot of The Avengers from the start of the Battle Of New York set the bar pretty high but it wasn't the first example and it certainly wasn't the last.

Hero shots are effectively Marvel Studios' answer to comic book splash pages: it's where they get to build up the iconography of their characters and trumpet their importance and heroism in a single, easily marketable shot that will stick with the audience. The fact that the trailer for Captain Marvel ends on her effectively going Super Saiyan (to steal from another fandom) in one of the best hero shots so far in the MCU is nothing short of ingenious.

After the slow build of not showing off her iconic red and blue suit, to get that powering up shot right at the end is the real money shot and it lands a hell of a haymaker.
