Casting Ben Affleck's Chinatown Movie

9. John Hillerman - Paul Giamatti

Much like Burt Young, John Hillerman does not feature a great deal in Chinatown but he was another big character that was involved with the shoot, and his character Yelburton is an integral piece of the film despite his limited screen-time. As such, it is likely that Hillerman will feature at least fleetingly in Affleck's production.

Hillerman was an American actor with a military background who carried himself with a grace, and was well-respected in his field. As such, it would require an actor capable of playing characters with an aura of dignity and grace about them.

Paul Giamatti is certainly one such actor. Giamatti is a man who has never let down a production over the course of his illustrious career and would inevitably bring that same level of adept skill and professionalism to the role of Hillerman.

Again, Hillerman is was not a character in the same vein as his co-stars like Nicholson or Huston and would be unlikely to feature heavily outside of the on-set moments, but an actor of Giamatti's pedigree would make those scenes incredibly engaging and immensely watchable.
