Casting Ben Affleck's Chinatown Movie
8. Darrell Zwerling - Guy Pearce
Pearce has built up a brilliant body of work over the last few decades, and would be an exceptional addition to the ensemble cast that this film requires and deserves. Darrell Zwerling himself, especially in comparison to some of his more boisterous co-stars, was a fairly subdued character and probably wouldn't feature very heavily in the dramatic goings-on surrounding the film's production.
However, such is the importance of Zwerling's Hollis Mulwray to the story of Chinatown, he is bound to feature at some point during Affleck's adaptation of Wasson's novel. Guy Pearce is an absolute chameleon of an actor and would easily be capable of embodying Zwerling's Mulwray.
Pearce is also a popular and talented actor that could probably add another layer to a character who doesn't feature very heavily in the surrounding narrative of the film. Pearce is an enigmatic presence in the majority of his roles and, although he doesn't appear the obvious immediate choice to play a straight man in such a convoluted story, he is a man capable of elevating even the simplest of roles with his talent.
