Casting Ben Affleck's Chinatown Movie
5. Robert Towne - Adam Goldberg
It's tough to say for certain how much Chinatown screenwriter, Robert Towne, will feature in Affleck's film, but based off the fact that the script is widely considered one of the greatest of all time and the kind of character Towne was, it would be a waste if he didn't have a fairly prominent role.
Towne was a pretty notorious cocaine user and, by all accounts, a man prone to outbursts of violence around the period of Chinatown's production. The part would certainly require an actor capable of playing unhinged personalities convincingly, while also being able to pay homage to the genius of the man.
There are few actors who have proven themselves better at negotiating both these spaces than Adam Goldberg. The criminally underrated Goldberg has over the years jumped from genre to genre with staggering success. From Saving Private Ryan to A Beautiful Mind to Fargo, he has shown himself to be as adept a dramatic actor as a comedic one.
Goldberg has the chops to pull off one of the lesser known, but no less prominent, characters behind the production of the iconic Chinatown - and he can grow a pretty nice beard to boot.
