Casting Ben Affleck's Chinatown Movie

3. John Huston - Christopher Plummer

Chinatown Dicaprio Jake Gittes
Penthouse/Sony Pictures

John Huston was a truly larger than life character who was an icon of the early days of Hollywood. As such, it would take an actor with some serious chops to fill the significant shoes of the late, great director and thespian. Christopher Plummer is one of the few actors still working today capable of stepping into such an iconic role.

Aside from a pretty impressive physical resemblance, Plummer has the credentials and ability for the role to boot. Plummer is one of the most well-respected actors around and for good reason. He would be a standout choice if one was looking to recast Huston's Noah Cross and for all the same reasons he is a man who would slide seamlessly into the role of John Huston himself.

Plummer carries the integrity and gravitas that the part requires. Huston was always regarded as a big presence and the thought of Plummer donning a cowboy hat and chomping a cigar around set just seems to fit. Huston is a man who would have demanded respect on set just with his mere presence and hiring a man with a similar aura would make Affleck's job all the easier.
