Casting Marvel's 10 Next Superhero Movies

2. Inhumans€™ Black Bolt €“ Joel Edgerton

Edgerton Bolt Inhumans appears to be on Kevin Feige€™s hit-list of properties to bring to the big screen, albeit at a reduced budget. Despite all the lofty premises about eugenics, caste systems and space-faring civilisations, you can see why Marvel chose to dial it back €“ some material is just plain unknown and a little too out-there to get the movie equivalent of a triple-A release. But that€™s perfectly fine €“ some superhero movies can be awesome because of their B-movie values, such as AD2000€™s Dredd. Yet Inhumans is possibly a tougher sell, if only because their leader Black Bolt can€™t speak. For those of you who don€™t know, Black Bolt€™s power comes from his voice, and it doesn€™t really have an off-switch. So basically, even yelping in pain when he stubs his toe could result in something akin to Hiroshima. With this in mind, you really have to take care with choosing who to cast, as they€™ve really got to be a physical performer more than anything else €“ if you€™re character can€™t utter a single word, a lot€™s going to be bound up in body language. Taking this into account, I reckon Joel Edgerton might be a good bet. While many people go on about Tom Hardy€™s physical performances in Warrior and The Dark Knight Rises, one might equally argue that Edgerton was his equal in the former, and would come a hell of a lot cheaper. If anything, it might give a guy usually confined to support roles a chance toamke an unorthodox role his, and show off some unconventional acting chops.
