9. Ms. Marvel Abbie Cornish
Apparently, a script already exists for a Ms. Marvel film, and this is already pretty cool. Not enough female superheroes make it to the big screen in their own vehicles, anyhow so its always good to see somebody else take up the baton and attempt to kickstart what has up to now been a moribund sub-genre, if Elektra and Catwoman (oh, god, Catwoman) are concerned. Make no mistake, Carol Danvers is a fully-realised character, with a past in the United States Air Force and as an alcoholic, meaning that whoever chooses to don her black leotard-thing or whatever dental floss the outfit becomes has to do more than stand around and look pretty. Shes got to be pretty imposing yet caring too, and its in this vein that I think the role should go to Abbie Cornish. After all, if youve seen Bright Star, shes already shown that shes got the abilities to wrestle with drama and turmoil. If you havent seen Bright Star, please remedy that. Another place you may recognise Cornish is from her role as the matriarchal Sweet Pea in Sucker Punch, Zack Snyders meta-masterpiece/flaming abomination, where she shows experience with action as well as a stern attitude which wouldnt be amiss portraying Danvers. Also, by the time a Ms. Marvel film would make it to screen, shell be recognisable as part of the Robocop reboot which, judging by its potentially sanitised age-rating, might not be a good thing. She might need to jump into another project, and pretty damn quickly, and for a woman who by then will know her way around the geek scene by this point and still in need of her first blockbuster starring role, thisll probably be a hell of a gig. Lets just hope she doesnt Halle Berry it, eh? And yes, that is a verb.
