Casting Star Trek: The Next Generation Reboot
1. Jean-Luc Picard - Tom Hardy
As the most British French person in the Federation, any new iteration of Captain Jean-Luc Picard would have to have that same intrinsic Englishness.
And no one is more quintessentially British than Tom Hardy.
As Captain of the Enterprise, Picard always came off as firm but fair, pushing his crew to greatness but never coddling them. And Tom Hardy's *ahem* harder streak would complement that perfectly. It also makes perfect sense, given Hardy already played a younger clone of Picard's in Star Trek: Nemesis.
Plus he's no stranger to going bald, or playing pop cultural icons, as we've seen from his iterations of Bane and Bronson. On top of that, with Hardy's sheer star power driving the franchise forward, producers would be able to set their phasers to make a killing.
Whilst Patrick Stewart lent a certain suave and sophisticated style to everyone's favourite GIFable Captain, Hardy would be an excellent choice for a younger, slightly rougher Picard, one who's still prone to making mistakes and acting hastily. He's also a good contrast to the more affable Hammer, leading to some excellent story potential.
Of course, the only thing that really matters is how well Hardy can Facepalm. That's the real Picard manoeuvre.
