Casting Star Trek: The Next Generation Reboot

As one of the most beloved and recognisable characters in all of Star Trek, choosing the right person to play the soft spoken android Data would be no mean feat.

In theory, Data can be played by anyone, man or woman, as according to the character himself, gender is just another construct to him.

But for a choice that is as close to the original as possible while adding a little something new, it can only be Doug Jones.

Having starred on Star Trek Discovery, Jones would be a good way to tie the new wave of Star Trek series together. As an incredibly gifted physical performer, Jones would have Data's physical mannerisms down perfectly, from the slight head movements to the childlike expressions.

And chances are, were Jones to be cast, he'd probably go further. As an incredibly talented mime, it's likely Jones would create a whole new style of movement for Data, even choosing to walk differently from the other characters on the show.

Couple this with Jones' naturally amicable demeanour, and you've got the perfect Data. Eerily different on the outside, but intrinsically human within.

Just cross your fingers that we don't see Data do any body horror contortion stuff.
