Casting Star Trek: The Next Generation Reboot
4. Deanna Troi - Gal Gadot
Serving as ship's counsellor, Deanna Troi forms the emotional backbone of the Enterprise's crew. It helps that being half-betazoid, she can sense the emotions of others, which allows her to compile psychological profiles of characters with uncanny accuracy.
On paper, this sounds absolutely terrifying. A being that is constantly aware of your innermost thoughts and feelings would work very well as the monster in a horror film, but it is in Troi's natural benevolence, and actress Marina Sirtis' talent for portraying empathy, that makes Deanna seem comforting rather than unnerving.
This is remarkably similar to Gal Gadot's portrayal of Diana Prince, a superhuman Amazon who believes in the superiority of her race and solving her problems through combat. Yet Gal Gadot is able to make Wonder Woman relatable and, well, wonderful.
This talent for making the strange seem normal would make her perfect to play the alien therapist.
The only problem casting Gal would be finding time in her schedule in between the twenty DC films she's currently shooting. But as Captain Picard himself would say: "Make it so."
