Cats 2019: Every Song Ranked From Least To Most Horrifying
13. Mungojerrie And Rumpleteazer
This was actually one of the more fun sequences in the film, excellently performed and showing off the film's outstanding setpieces - one of the few things that actually improved upon the original stage musical, and certainly elevated the film itself despite its many issues.
The slinky soundtrack really gives you the impression of two sly cat burglars prowling around in the dead of night and committing some B&E for the fun of it, and the way the actors danced and leapt and played in overlarge props was enjoyable to watch and imagine taking part in.
It's still fairly odd, however, since this is the scene in the film you start to realise the Jellicle cats aren't scaled like actual cats - much too tiny to be such, and throwing you off even more. The scene at the dinner table is mildly unsettling, and the fact that you hear a dog near the end that you never actually get to see is off-putting, though thankfully not as off-putting as actually seeing whatever monstrosity a dog in the CATS universe would actually look like.
