Cats Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs
1. The Exceptional Production Design
Though far too much of the movie unfortunately relies on garish digital backdrops, it's clear that the craftsfolk working on Cats put a ton of work into creating a tangible world.
The physical sets are pretty terrific for the most part, especially those which place an emphasis on the smaller stature of the cats, therefore having them interact with comically oversized objects.
Though a lot of the below-the-line work is sadly overwhelmed by the sheer VFX tidal wave, there's no doubting the love and care put into trying to make the movie capture the visual identity of the source material.
