10. Salt
Honestly, I have my reservations about Salt, but I needed ten movies and could only think of nine. Salt is not terrible. There is a female protagonist who is not completely objectified like Angelina Jolie was in Lara Croft. Salt had so much potential. Angelina Jolie took the role because she was quoted as saying she did not want to play a Bond girl, she wanted to play Bond, so the role was rewritten after Tom Cruise turned it down. First reports of the movie marketed it as a female Mission Impossible or The Bourne Identity giving it a lot of feminist-friendly potential Unfortunately, it didnt quite deliver. On the plus side Angelina Jolie didnt dress in skintight spandex; she got the job done; didnt get rescued by men and was the main character. If nothing else, it was better than it would have been starring Tom Cruise. Evelyn Salt is a well-rounded female character and unfortunately, given the state of blockbuster movies these days, that qualifies her as a feminist character, however much I wish it didnt. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with this movie, but unlike the others on this list, I cannot think of a moment or aspect of the movie that gave it strong feminist themes other than it having a female lead character. I need more from my female characters, but Hollywood is not providing.
