2. The Doctor - Doctor Who (2005)
Unless you're a die hard fan, it's easy to forget that, once upon a time, Christopher Eccleston played the first incarnation of Doctor Who when the series was "rebooted" by the BBC in 2005. At the time of his casting, Doctor Who was thought of as something rather silly - all rubber monsters and naff storylines. I mean, audiences weren't anywhere near as into it as they are nowadays. Which brings us to Christopher Eccleston, whose ninth Doctor layed down the tracks for a more dramatic, serious and respectable Doctor Who. That's not to say he didn't bring fun to the franchise, but there was an added weight with Eccleston that really gave the BBC room to develop the show for the 21st century. Rather sadly, Eccleston only got to play the Doctor for a measly thirteen weeks before he moved on to other projects. Given that lots of Who fanatics regard him as the best Doctor ever, that's a real shame - one could certainly argue that Eccleston was one of very few actors who seemed to nail the Doctor's persona. He was somebody we could take seriously whilst remaining utterly charming, too.
