Christopher Eccleston: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5 Performances That Sucked...

5. Wolf - The Invisible Circus (2001)

The Invisible Circus

This little-seen movie remains little-seen for a reason: it's pretty darn terrible. Based on the novel of the same name by Jennifer Egan, The Invisible Circus tells the story of a teenage girl who travels to Paris in the 1970s to learn more about her sister's recent suicide, only to find herself falling in love with her dead sister's boyfriend - and that's where our main man Christopher Eccleston comes in, playing a character called - brace yourself - Wolf. If you think this all sounds a bit artsy and naff, you'd be right. And Eccleston can't save it - he's dull. Did I mention that this movie also stars Cameron Diaz? Yep. And though she's not exactly bad, nobody contained within the frames of this feature comes out looking particularly good - put it down to the script. As Wolf, Eccleston doesn't quite seem on the same wave length as his character. Worst of all, during parts he's wearing a terrible-looking wig that - even today, over a decade later - he must look back on and cringe. Heck, I'm cringing, and I'm nothing to do with the movie (phew!). Overly sentimental and boring, this remains a pallid addition to Eccleston's filmography.
