Cold Pursuit Review: 7 Ups & 1 Down

Not your average Liam Neeson thriller.

Cold Pursuit is out now in UK cinemas, and though "Liam Neeson revenge thriller" is practically a genre unto itself at this point, it's worth knowing that his new movie shouldn't be lazily lumped in with the likes of Taken, Non-Stop and The Commuter.

A smart, red-blooded remake of the 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance, Cold Pursuit might raise few expectations between its mid-February release and low-key marketing campaign, but thanks to sharp work both in front of and behind the camera, it has cult classic written all over it.

If you're not dissuaded from seeing the movie by Neeson's recent foot-in-mouth PR fiasco, there's an uncommonly offbeat, clever and brutal thriller here far away from the star's glossier and more typical PG-13 outings.

For those craving something distinct and off the beaten genre path, Cold Pursuit more than delivers the goods, both for fans of the original and those who've never even heard of it. But first, here's one little gripe to consider...
