5 Mind Blowing Performances...
5. Minority Report (2002)
Adapted from the late Phillip K. Dicks novel of the same name, youd be forgiven for overlooking Farrell in Minority report as it really is a Tom Cruise vehicle. However, look past L. Ron Hubbards favourite disciple and the next person youll see in the supporting cast is the smarmy Fed in charge of bringing down the Pre-crime Division, Danny Witwer, played by the native Irelander. He was only a few years out of his run on the Irish soap Ballykissangel when he popped up in Minority Report, but it was instantly abundantly clear that Farrell was at home on the Hollywood stage. His Danny is cool, collected a by the numbers kind of guy but underneath all that, Farrell does a great job of keeping an insatiable hunger for success in his eyes. Its this hunger that eventually brings his characters downfall. For someone so new to the high budget cinema, Farrell was able to hold his own superbly next to some of the biggest names in the business. Danny Witwer isnt exactly a world away from Quade in Total Recall, and youve got to imagine that his success here is one of the reasons hes gone on to bag the enviable role.
