The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is one of the most beloved comedies of the 1990s, becoming a bonafide cult classic as well as winning an Oscar for Best Costume Design and spawning its own jukebox musical.

In April 2024, original writer-director Stephan Elliott announced that Priscilla Queen of the Desert 2 was in development, but when star Terence Stamp passed away last August, that seemingly threw all the sequel plans into question.

However, Elliott soon enough revealed that, with the blessing of both financiers and co-stars Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce, Stamp had spent the last few months of his life pre-shooting his scenes with "a nine-camera array of the entire script."

The implication, then, is that Stamp's performance will be digitally transplanted onto a double during the main shoot.

While it doesn't appear that principal photography has yet begun, the fact that considerable money has clearly already been spent securing Stamp's role makes it clear that this three-decades-in-the-making sequel is actually going to happen.
