5. Shaolin Women's Soccer

Shaolin Soccer is a hilarious 2001 sports comedy from the great Stephen Chow, revolving around a Shaolin monk (Chow) who forms a football team with his brothers to employ their martial arts skills on the pitch.

The film was a critical and commercial success, and it became a cult film in the years that followed, even earning praise from filmmakers as hallowed as Edgar Wright.

Chow has talked up a prospective sequel many times over the last 25 years, and in 2023 announced that the script for the follow-up, entitled Shaolin Women's Soccer, was finally complete.

A script ultimately doesn't amount to much, though, and it would've surprised few if this sequel continued to be a pipe dream that never went before cameras.

But earlier this year, it was confirmed that Shaolin Women's Soccer actually wrapped shooting last June and is expected to release sometime in 2026.

The film will reportedly follow a women's football team, the Emei Squad, as they compete in the AFC Champions League, but of course the prime appeal will be seeing all of the wildly cartoonish action unfold.
