20 Announced Movie Sequels That Are FINALLY Happening
19. Spaceballs: The New One
A sequel to Mel Brooks' legendary Star Wars parody Spaceballs has literally been in the works since the 1987 original, which itself teased a follow-up hilariously titled Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.
But for the better part of 40 years Brooks wasn't able to make it happen, by which point most fans had lost hope of it ever coming to fruition.
And even when Spaceballs 2 was officially announced in 2024, with Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) directing and Josh Gad co-writing, many doubted whether it'd actually see the light of day.
But indeed, last December Spaceballs: The New One wrapped shooting, with Brooks, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, George Wyner, and Daphne Zuniga all reprising their roles from the original film, while joined by new cast members Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan.
It of course remains to be seen if a four-decades-later Spaceballs sequel will actually be any good, but the fact it got made at all basically feels like a not-so-minor miracle.
