20 Most WTF Horror Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

15. Beau Is Afraid

Props to Ari Aster for making a horror film which made his two previous genre efforts, Hereditary and Midsommar, seem positively ordinary, even pedestrian, by comparison.

Though there might be some debate about whether Beau Is Afraid actually is a horror film or not, for anyone who's ever suffered with anxiety, there's simply no way it can't be.

Aster's film is one of cinema's great renditions of life-ruining paranoia, as we follow Beau (a mesmerising Joaquin Phoenix) down an increasingly concerning path from which there seems to be no good escape.

At three hours in length Beau Is Afraid is an undeniably gruelling experience, but it's also one of the boldest and most staggeringly uncomprising films of the 2020s - the result of a filmmaker being given all the tools they need to deliver their vision free of meddling.

It's certainly not for everyone, but it is one of the most memorably strange offerings of recent times.
