Creed 2 Trailer Reaction: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. Is It Too Sentimental For Its Own Good?

The Rocky series has always had family as its core theme, so it shouldn't be terribly surprising that it's a major fixture in Creed 2's first trailer.

However, the sudden introduction of Adonis having a young child with Bianca (Tessa Thompson) does seem like a rather blatant, perhaps even lazy, attempt to inject this sequel with some added emotion.

Considering the romance was by far the worst part of the first movie, it's not easy to have faith that it'll be much more interesting this time around. Clearly, it's going to explore the notion of Adonis "becoming" his father and trying to set a better example for his own child, but that's also a pretty trite through-line that's been done to death by this point.

It's hard to tell whether things will get too slushy and saccharine for their own good from one trailer alone, though this does seem to be piling the emotional baggage quite enthusiastically on top of the titular character.

These gripes aside, however, it's a solid trailer for the most part. Here's everything Creed 2 looks to be nailing...
