Crimson Peak: 10 Things To Look Forward To

As soon as Crimson Peak hits the screens, Downton Abbey is set to be dethroned as THE period costume drama.

Judging by what the trailers have revealed, the film comes complete with perfectly starched high collars and reams upon reams of gorgeous fabric that drapes itself seductively around Chastain and Wasikowska.

Del Toro manages to make even the funeral scene look stylish, and not even the odd disembodied arm or two manage to detract from this charming picture.

And, while in Downton Abbey the lingering impression is of a bunch of people playing dress-up, things couldn’t be more real in Crimson Peak - literally so, as del Toro is a famed stickler for authenticity, which he achieves by using previously tried and trusted people to work on his designs.

And even then, the director insists on a seriously hands-on approach, confessing that he likes to have a say in all designs. Which can be potentially annoying for the rest of the team, but which - judging by the wild costumes from previous offerings, like Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy – guarantees a stunning end result.
