Crimson Peak: 10 Things To Look Forward To
7. A Female Killer With Balls
Despite being decidedly coy about the minutiae of the plot, del Toro did hint at two massive devices that are likely to have a considerable impact on the story arc.
And, refreshingly, both revolve around two women whose motives are highly questionable, even if their ruthlessness is not.
The most obvious of these is Lucille, whose red dress has already marked her as the hussy of the piece even before she is heard bitching about her new sister-in-law. During interviews, Jessica Chastain has let slip mention of a dead baby and an unmistakeable obsession with serial killers for her character - though she also hints that the latter might be nothing but a red herring. Whatever it is, clearly, something is not quite right with the lady of the house.
And equally clearly, something is very wrong with the dead woman whose likeness is immortalised in a portrait that screams Dorian Grey more than it does lady of leisure.
Although this female presence is limited to the watchful eyes that seem to follow the young family, the power of her gaze is no less freaky and seems to imply that there might be the odd murder or two in her past.
Which, upon considering that she is Thomas’s and Lucille's mother, kind of gives rise to some rather serious doubts about the criminal pedigree of this family.
