20 Movies Critics HATE But Audiences LOVE

If you grew up with Steven Spielberg's Hook, there's a good chance you just assumed that it was a near-universally beloved fantasy adventure film, because with the untouchable combo of Spielberg and Robin Williams, how could it not be?

But while this bold Peter Pan sequel rocks a firm 76% from audiences, its critical score is less than half that - a paltry 37%.

Critics took umbrage with the film's admittedly beefy 142-minute runtime, as well as its inconsistent tone and perceived excess of sentimentality - a common criticism levelled against Spielberg films of the era, in fairness.

But audiences are generally more welcoming to open-hearted movies, especially when they star an actor at the top his game like Robin Williams, not to ignore the campy fun of Dustin Hoffman's Captain Hook.

And of course, there are those undeniable nostalgia goggles to consider - many of those who've rated the film on Rotten Tomatoes are surely guided by their dew-eyed childhood memories of watching it. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
