20 Movies Critics HATE But Audiences LOVE
1. Freelance
And finally, 2023's action-comedy Freelance is yet further proof that you can throw two hot people into a mildly exotic location, sprinkle over some silly action, and it'll probably pass the basic sniff test for most viewers.
Indeed, Freelance landed a rock solid 78% audience approval rating, no matter that only 10% of critics gave it a passing grade.
For many reviewers, it was simply a dull, forgettable retread of a type of action-comedy that was hugely popular in the 2010s but has largely fallen out of favour in recent years - especially theatrically.
In the vein of films like The Bounty Hunter and Killers, it's basically the hottest movie of 2010.
But audiences simply had fun with the two-hander between Alison Brie and John Cena, the silly, wafer-thin excuse for a plot, and all the ridiculous action.
It's nothing deep, but critics have clearly had to sit through far more movies like this against their will than general viewers.
