Cruella Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
3. Emma Thompson (Almost) Steals The Show
Though there are a number of solid supporting performances in the movie - namely Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser as Cruella's childhood pals Jasper and Horace - the show is very nearly stolen entirely by a brilliantly cast Emma Thompson.
As the snobby Baroness who plays a pivotal role in Cruella's transformation, Thompson is deliciously obnoxious yet also refuses to let the character descend into pure hammy farce.
It's clear that Thompson's having an absolute blast throughout, and nails a character who is both hilariously conceited and genuinely quite fearsome - while looking spectacular in her many ornate outfits, of course.
