20 Horror Movie Scenes They Were FORCED To Cut

1. Orlok's Bloody Butt - Nosferatu

It's tough to look at Robert Eggers' masterful recent remake of Nosferatu and see it as anything less than a totally uncompromising vision - but that's not quite the case.

The final sequence, in which Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) surrenders herself to Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård) in order to ensure his death-by-sunlight, is insanely brutal by any measure, the closing shot of Ellen and Orlok's embracing corpses sure to stick with audiences long after the end credits roll.

But Eggers revealed that things originally went even further. If you watch the closing shot closely, you'll see that Orlok is still bleeding from his eyes, ears and nose, and during shooting Eggers also planned for Orlok to be bleeding from his anus.

The idea got far enough that the prop for Orlok's corpse was indeed rigged to bleed from its back-passage, but when it came to shooting, he realised that it "didn’t seem quite as emotionally effective."

And so, Eggers had his team quite literally put a cork in the bleeding butt, lest this haunting image lurch too far in the direction of gross-out shock value.
