Danny Boyle's Films Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Sunshine (2007)
Yes, it goes totally off-the-rails in its third act, but for its majority, Sunshine is a stylistically incredible, intelligent sci-fi thriller with a terrific, game cast in the bargain (especially lead Cillian Murphy).
It's got an absolutely killer premise (the sun is dying, and needs to be "rebooted" with a nuke), and though the end result doesn't quite live up to its potential, it's still beautiful to look at (both in terms of visual effects and set design), thought-provoking, tense as Hell and ultimately a perfectly acceptable lower-mid-tier offering from Boyle.
It's not Boyle's best collaboration with Alex Garland and you get the feeling neither of them were totally satisfied with how it came out, but it's clearly not their worst team-up either (see: The Beach).
