Darren Aronofsky To Direct George Washington Biopic 'The General'

After he goes biblical with his Noah's Ark movie, Darren Aronofsky is going historical. Variety reports that the Black Swan helmer is attached to produce and direct a biopic about America's first President George Washington, titled 'The General'. Written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, the movie is an 'Unforgiven-style' look at the life of the President that we imagine by the title and premise will follow his distinguished military career. Nobody is quite certain of what precisely the film is about at this point but we are sure intrigued, especially as the film's screenwriters don't have a background that would make you think 'historical drama'. Cooper and Collage are the scribes behind the teen movies 'New York Minute' and 'Accepted', and more recently came up with the story that eventually became the ensemble comedy 'Tower Heist' last year. Paramount Pictures have first option on 'The General' via their first look deal with Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures banner but they need to commit to the movie this week or potentially lose it to another studio, and we imagine this project will have great interest after Aronofsky's 'Black Swan' earned over $300 million worldwide. Aronofsky has a couple of projects brewing as his next potential project including a biopic about a US President's wife in 'Jackie Kennedy', a sci-fi movie titled Human Nature and also a half man/half robot pic 'Machine Man'. He is also closely following developments on The Weinstein's Judy Garland biopic Get Happy, that has Anne Hathaway attached in the lead role. Aronofsky's next movie 'Noah' will star Russell Crowe in the title role and has a March 2014 release date set for the hugely ambitious movie. Filming on that one begins in July.
