4. The Soundtrack
Typically of Grohl's profile in his industry, and the importance of Sound City, the documentary is populated by the kind of rock royalty that makes these things so engaging for music fans, including Sir Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Lindsay Buckingham and Rick Rubin. An incredible off-shoot of that famous cast of characters is an astonishingly good soundtrack bringing together their talents with Grohl's particular set of skills- he remains both one of the finest rock front men, and the most accomplished drummers of his or any generation. Grohl has negotiated the industry ladder so successfully that he is able to call on some of the most eye-catching talents for his various projects, and work with them as equals, which leads to a wonderful audio chemistry that is as authentic when he's playing with Corey Taylor as it with his royal Beatleness Sir Paul McCartney. And as a result, like the greatest films about music, Sound City has a soundtrack as marketable off its own back as the film. The track listing is below, and if it isn't enough to have you reaching for a copy of the soundtrack - or even better the film itself when it is released digitally - few things will...
