Dave Grohl's Sound City: 6 Reasons It's The First Essential Movie Of 2013

3. It Has Its Own Super-Group

Sound City Players Along with the exceptional soundtrack, made up of a plethora of incredible talent, Sound City was also launched for the lucky few collected for its premiere at Sundance with a celebratory gig by a super-group consisting of the same musical icons, including an eye-catching opportunity to see three members of Nirvana (Grohl, Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear - also of Foo Fighters) play together. All-in-all, Grohl brought together a supergroup of 17 musicians, under the banner of Sound City Players, for the one-off concert, which understandably attracted massive amounts of attention, with tickets going for the kind of astronomical fees people pay to attend gigs that money cant normally buy. Thanks to high demand, and the strict no-hacks rule, it will go down as one of those gigs about which snippets of information are traded like precious metals. What we do know is that it was a bumper 35 songs long, and went from heavy through emotionally poignant (the near-Nirvana reunion) to sublime - the Stevie Nicks featuring finale. I couldn't be more jealous, but this has to be the first time jealousy can be counted as a positive marketing technique. Thankfully, Grohl is apparently planning shows all over the world, so all is not lost.
