David Goyer directing Magneto spin-off movie

xmen3pubm.jpgVariety are telling us that David Goyer is locked in to helm the X-Men spin off movie Magneto for 20th Century Fox. We probably should have seen this coming, most of his filmography as a writer/director has been in comic book movies. Goyer directed Blade Trinity, and he also co-wrote Batman Begins and is locked in to bringing a Green Arrow movie to the big screen, after his attempt at making The Flash failed. Goyer will also be writing the script which will focus on the early relationship between Professor Xavier and Magneto, and will again star Ian McKellan and although not confirmed, we can presume Patrick Stewart as well. As the characters will be far younger than both actors, the only two choices open for them is to either use younger actors for most of the movie, or maybe even use that creepy CGI that was in the opening of X-Men 3... which as impressive as it was it would never hold up for a full movie. The other X-Men spin-off movie Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman is still without a director but is expected to be pushed into production before work on Magneto begins. There's still no word on an X-Men 4 movie either but if they go-ahead with that movie as well then we are probably set for 3 X-Men movies in the next two years.
