DC Extended Universe: 5 Best & 5 Worst Characters Introduced In 2016

5. Amanda Waller (Suicide Squad)

Suicide Squad Amanda Waller

The stone cold overseer of Task Force X has already had a number of actresses bring her to life over the years in video games, TV shows, and film, including Angela Bassett, Pam Grier, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and, of course, CCH Pounder, but her presence in this year's Suicide Squad - this time portrayed by Viola Davis - was essentially her coming out party to a more mainstream audience unfamiliar with the character. Thankfully, they got to meet a solid interpretation of Waller, with Davis doing an admirable job in making the character a highlight of the film.

Beyond putting together Task Force X and being the group's rescue target, Waller's involvement in the whole affair isn't massive, but important nonetheless, and Davis sold the ruthlessness of the character, embodied perfectly in moments like her execution of her own people to finish covering up her role in what's happening to her willingness to still kill the entire squad despite the fact they cleaned up her mess and saved the world.

In a film littered with performances ranging from woefully forgettable to pretty electric, it's a testament to Davis' work that she stood out despite having so little to do in comparison to some of the other characters, and hopefully we get to see Waller continue to be fleshed out and demonstrate what she's capable of as the DCEU keeps unfolding.
