DC Extended Universe: Ranking Every Upcoming Project By Anticipation
Truth, justice and a whole lot of cinema.
It's a good time to be a comic book fan. Marvel Studios has their Cinematic Universe in full swing and set for expansion for a number of years to come and now Warner Bros. and DC are on the verge of really kicking off their own Extended Universe next year after dipping their toes in the water with 2013's Man Of Steel.
Whereas Marvel Studios is taking an "everything's connected" approach to their shared universe, wherein their various films and television series are all part of one cohesive whole, the DCEU is (for now) set to unfold solely on the big screen. As such, DC shows like Arrow, Gotham and The Flash can exist on their own terms, unbeholden to the films in cultivating their own small screen worlds, serving up different live-action interpretations of their characters for audiences to choose from.
Though proposed films like Justice League Dark and a Man Of Steel sequel are seemingly in limbo for the time being, Warner Bros. and DC have long since announced and dated a full slate of other film projects through 2020 that will form the basis of their DCEU. Following our look at the future of the MCU earlier this month, let's turn the spotlight now on what's to come for the DCEU, focusing squarely on the films that are definitely moving forward and stacking up which ones we're most excited for...
10. Cyborg
Release Date: April 3rd, 2020
In April of 2014, news broke that the character of Victor Stone/Cyborg would be showing up in a cameo role in Batman V Superman ahead of a more substantial role in the Justice League films. To everyone's surprise, little-known theatre actor Ray Fisher had won the role, setting himself up for a massive leap from the stage to the big screen.
When Warner Bros. and DC announced their big slate of films last October, the reveal that a Cyborg film was in the works came as a pleasant bombshell for Fisher himself, who admitted to Entertainment Weekly that he'd had no idea just how big the role was intended to be. Since then, though, we've had little to no information about his place in BvS or what his standalone film will entail.
Of all of the DCEU films currently announced, Cyborg is the second-furthest out, arriving a little under a year after the second Justice League film concludes. When the closest thing we've come to news about the character or his place in the DCEU was an April Fool's joke on Fisher's Instagram, it's hard to get too excited yet for his standalone adventure.
