The current top candidates to direct Man Of Steel 2 are Doug Liman, J.J Abrams and Edgar Wright.

Well JJ Abrams knows how to revitalise stagnating or actually dead film franchises as he's proved with both Star Trek and Star Wars, so he'd be a hell of a capture for DC. Quite how his style of film-making would fit with the overall DC tone remains to be seen though, as he's very much a spectacle film-maker with distinct Amblin influences.
Doug Liman is something of an acquired taste, but Edge Of Tomorrow was incredible (even if the studio completely messed up the marketing), and he does have the capacity for excellent event movie-making.
Edgar Wright would be the geekiest choice. He knows superhero movies, he knows comic books and as an added bonus that should in no way affect any decision to hire him, he has an axe to grind with Marvel. He'd probably seek vehemently to make his own movie (which might prove an issue), but he's definitely an exciting idea.
