Sam Raimi and Shawn Levy are the top candidates to direct Shazam.

It's very possible that Sam Raimi being linked to a DC comic book movie is the most exciting thing that's ever happened. He's a step above almost any other candidate thanks to his experience and his heart-on-his-sleeve geekdom. He'd also be exactly the right man to do something different to the mainline DC movies, and you just know you could rely on him to make a pulpy feeling comic book movie.
Sign me up.
Shawn Levy, on the other hand is probably more like the equivalent of Marvel hiring the Russos. He has a lot of comedies on his CV (sadly, a lot of which are terrible), and there's little there that suggests he'd be suited to comic book film-making. But then maybe that's a good thing. And he does know how to guide family friendly franchise movies to big box office hauls (like Night At The Museum).
