DCEU: 7 Hints That Batman: Under The Red Hood Movie Is Coming

7. Jason Todd's Death

Batman V Superman Robin Dead

It would have been very easy for Batman v Superman to introduce a disaffected Bruce Wayne who had been turned off crime-fighting without introducing the revelation that the Joker had killed Robin. They could have pinned his mood entirely on Superman's destruction of Metropolis in fact, and it probably would have been a cleaner narrative.

But in establishing not only that Robin is dead, but also that the Robin in question was Jason Todd, Warner Bros lit a fuse consciously that leads only to one place. They could have had Dick Grayson as the murdered Robin - it would probably have had more emotional impact, in fact - and they wouldn't have been faced with the rumours that Todd was either going to be resurrected as Red Hood, or that he was actually The Joker.

Snyder and his DCEU team knew what they were doing: they planted the seed of Jason Todd, knowing full well that the implicit existence of A Death In The Family as part of the narrative prior to Dawn Of Justice meant that somewhere in the future, Under The Red Hood HAD to happen.
