DCEU: 9 New Revelations About DC's Future Movies
8. There's No Joker/Harley Movie
In the wake of Suicide Squad's critical mauling and the criticisms of Jared Leto's Joker in particular (some of which was rather unfair given how much the editing process hamstrung the performance), it was widely assumed that Leto's version of Mr J was done. But then Warner Bros unveiled their plans to expand their interests out of Suicide Squad, since it made a huge amount of money.
A sequel was planned immediately and a number of spin-offs - for Will Smith's Deadshot, Harley Quinn and the Joker - were all planned. Most interestingly, there was a Harley Quinn/Joker team-up announced that would apparently expand their relationship and take in Harley's animated debut Mad Love as inspiration.
Fans were divided, since the relationship was reductive and Joker's representation in Suicide Squad was hindered badly by the editing process, but there was some hope that the film would fix all of the issues. That was until it was unceremoniously cancelled as part of Warner Bros' quiet housekeeping.
With Harley's story being reframed by Birds Of Prey, going back to her relationship with The Joker - no matter how many narrative wrongs are righted - would be counter-productive.
