DCEU: 9 New Revelations About DC's Future Movies
1. The Joker's Movie Is Probably Cancelled
Perhaps it's a good thing for Jared Leto that he currently has a contract with Sony and Marvel for their Spider-Man universe, because his opportunities in the DC realm are drying up. He's now gone from having three possible projects to just one, and that's assuming that Gotham City Sirens is even happening.
As with his Harley team-up movie, the solo Joker outing has also been dropped by Warners, despite only being greenlit back in June (according to Variety ran).
Presumably, the change of direction on Suicide Squad made continuing on with the expansions and spin-offs from the original a little redundant. And Joaquin Phoenix's version of the Joker needs the marketing boost of being considered Warners' primarily concern. Any competitor character at this stage would just be an unhelpful distraction.
It sounds very much like this is the end for Leto's version of the character - and if it's not for David Ayer's participation in the DC movie universe too it would be a bit of a surprise.
