Deadpool: 100 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References

61. The Extended Voltron Defender Of The Universe Gag

When on his first "date" with Vanessa, Wade gets all the balls in the hole and wins Skee ball, using his tokens to buy a Voltron Defender of the Universe ring. More than just a pop culture shoutout, Deadpool uses the Voltron team-up as a metaphor for him, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead at the end of the film.

60. The Star Wars/Empire Confusion

Contrary to popular belief, when originally released Star Wars was just called Star Wars (no Episode IV: A New Hope) and The Empire Strikes Back was just The Empire Strikes Back (the Episode V subtitling existed only inside the movie). George Lucas' subsequent changes have led to a lot of confusion of what movie's called what, and the conversation Vanessa and Wade have discussing the name of the film which features Yoda riding Luke's back acts as a microcosm of this.

59. Bit By A Radioactive Shar Pei

There's a lot of great gags at the expense of Wade's disfigurement, but none are better than the man himself saying he looks like he was "bit by a radioactive shar-pei". Not only is it a f*cking great metaphor, seeing Deadpool use the full extent of his intelligence, but it serves as another nice wink towards Spider-Man.
