Deadpool: 100 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References
58. The Fake Deadpool Toy
When Colossus throws Deadpool into a car, we fade into our second flashback, which gives everyone the easter egg they've been waiting for; Origins' Deadpool, in the flesh. Or, rather, plastic - in Wade's apartment there's a model of the stitched up, topless mess of the character, an honest reminder of how much Fox f*cked the character up in the past.
57. Say Anything... (As Long As It's Careless Whisper)
After finding out he has cancer, Wade's initial reaction is to get out and avoid subjecting Vanessa to the heartbreak of his death. He tries to convince her the only way he knows how; through references. He claims that he'll see here in the next life, where he'll stand outside her window with a boombox, a clear reference to eighties teen classic Say Anything... The only difference is the song - Deadpool loves him some Wham!
56. Agent Smith
It's rather fitting that Jed Rees' Recruiter, a character who - for all his impact on the plot, is rather generic - is given the likewise generic nickname Agent Smith by a pre-transformation Wade. Of course, what it really is is a nod to The Matrix, which feels apt given the movie's intermittent use of bullet-time esque slow-mo.
55. The Taken Reference Is Very Involved
Wade's worries over Taken and Liam Neeson's suitability of being a father aren't just an extended gag about him failing to face his cancer - it's something carries over into the film itself, with the accompanying piece on the soundtrack titled Liam Neeson Nightmares.
