Some of the references are as head-scratching as they are fun: to the side of the victim's body there's a sheet of metal with the phrase "Victim of The Brain" daubed in graffiti across it (upside down for added obscurity). Chances are, that won't mean anything to you, but it's the title of a 1988 head-f*ck documentary by Piet Hoenderdos, loosely based on The Mind's I, a compilation of texts and stories on the philosophy of mind and self.

It's an interesting allusion to make for Deadpool, since the compiler of that text, philosopher Douglas Hofstadter's work centred on the idea that identity and self came from somewhere he only had minimal control over. Which is basically the mantra behind Deadpool's outlandish behaviour.

If you're into philosophical issues of human consciousness, this really is the film for you.
